Richmond opens the door for high quality disabled holiday homes

A LUXURY beach house designed and developed by Richmond Properties for use by disabled people has opened its doors at the UK's premier coastal holiday village, The Bay Filey.

The five-star property is the second one to be built on the £120m development for Pickering-based organisation The Wilf Ward Family Trust, which has been providing social care services to people with health or disability needs since 1986.

The four bedroom house has been specially adapted from an original holiday home design by Richmond Properties and it's leisure home division Eko Custom Homes Ltd and features en suite wet rooms with shower tables, ceiling tracking and hoists, and a wheelchair-adapted kitchen.

Essential Vivendi - the developers behind the site - have also built a new 'Changing Places' changing room, complete with hoist, to facilitate easy access for disabled people to the onsite swimming pool. The Wilf Ward Family Trust's chief executive, Paul McCay, said feedback from their guests about the first holiday home had been so encouraging they wanted to add another, similar property to its portfolio.

The trust purchased the first property in May 2011 and it has been in great demand during the holiday season ever since. Mr McCay said:

"Buying the first house has been a huge benefit to the Wilf Ward Family Trust because not only has it enabled us to provide first class holidays for the people we work with, the facilities mean they can remain as independent as possible during their stay. Such disabled-friendly holiday accommodation is a rarity and it is fantastic that the developers Richmond Properties and The Bay worked so closely with us to achieve this. This second property will give more disabled people the opportunity to enjoy high quality accommodation in a beautiful location, confident in knowing all their needs can be catered for." -

Wayne Low, director of Richmond and also Essential Vivendi and Eko Custom Homes, said he was delighted the trust had decided to purchase a second property at The Bay Filey. He said: "We feel by designing and building these specialist holiday homes with the Wilf Ward Family Trust we are leading the way in helping disabled people have an independent and enjoyable holidays without compromising on the exacting standards all our properties are finished to. "The new beach house makes a fantastic addition to the overall development and I hope our partnership with the trust continues to go from strength to strength so we can keep providing fantastic breaks for the people in their care."

The Bay Filey is a £120m development of 'bricks and mortar' holiday cottages and apartments on a 150-arce costal site just three miles south of the popular resort of Filey, North Yorkshire. More than 300 properties have already been built and sold, with a further 600 scheduled for construction over the coming years.
